OUR STORY

The concept of Pixie Heat™ originally came about when founder, Kindra Wright-Horn searched high and low for a cordless flat iron for herself. When she came up empty handed, it dawned on her that there was nothing on the market that catered to pixie cuts but there are millions of women who wear short hair.

Being a short hair specialist for over 30 years, Kindra thought why not create a styling iron that I know will fill a void?!

She began the journey of researching and developing a prototype, that allowed you to work smarter, not harder. With her clients and fellow stylists also in-mind, Kindra designed a wireless iron that allows you to curl freely and on the go! No cords to get tangled up in, the freedom to charge wherever and whenever with a USB outlet, a styling tool that gives you the option to choose a desired heat level that won’t damage the hair. A tool that is travel friendly. For stylists, a styling iron that could be added to their kits for days on set where timing is crucial or in their salons.

After months of testing the prototype herself, being a pixie girl and all, Kindra finalized the design and ultimately brought to life a styling iron that caters to pixie cuts, a “pixie” iron that she loves!

KINDRA

Kindra Wright-Horn is not just a hairstylist; she's a visionary, transforming the world of short hair with Pixie Heat™. Kindra's love affair with short hair ignited during her teenage years when she embraced a shorter hairstyle. Guided by the legacy of her Grandmother, a salon owner for over six decades, Kindra realized her gifted and talented hands would soon transform the look and confidence of many women.

For the last three decades, Kindra has worked across the east coast fine tuning her craft and establishing a loyal clientele. Driven by her entrepreneurial spirit, Kindra opened her first salon in New Jersey, "JalaMadi Signature Salon," named after her children, which she owned and operated for 12 years. During this time, her salon was the first African-American hair salon to be featured in commercials on one of Northern New Jersey’s cable networks.

Recognizing a growing demand for short hair services, Kindra made the decision to focus on short and pixie hairstyles. Her move to Atlanta in 2017, a city known for its importance in staying ahead of the curve, marked a significant shift in her career. Kindra introduced a unique salon concept called Short Hair Xpress exclusively catering to short hair. Kindra’s clientele, primarily comprised of confident, professional women on the go, would serve as the inspiration for Pixie Heat™. Her talent swiftly gained popularity, positioning her as Atlanta’s premier short hair expert.

In her extensive career, Kindra has styled hair for high-profile personalities and their orbit, including "The Brat," the girl group TOTAL and for R&B musician Miss Nana as she toured with rap artist, Bow Wow.  Currently, she creates the latest looks for recording artist, Sonyáe Elise, winner of Bravo’s show, Platinum Hits.

Kindra has always looked to new and innovative education techniques, focusing on helping new stylists enhance their skills and empowering her clients to look and feel their best. Pixie Heat™, a culmination of her pursuits, stands as the latest chapter in Kindra’s story.
